GOD, FAMILY & COUNTRY, 2019
Focusing on my childhood home of Albany, Georgia, I attempted to understand my rural upbringing by looking to the flat farmland, pine tree-filled landscape and aspects of Christianity that are embedded within the Bible Belt region of the Southern United States. Primarily shooting on a Hasselblad, the medium format images reflect my experiences of being a Southerner, and are interwoven with interview text from my grandparents in addition to scans of family photographs from the late nineteenth century through the 1960s. Through all of these mediums, I hoped to craft a story of what it means to be both a Southerner and a part of a Southern family in what is often seen as a contentious and misunderstood region of the United States. The story is represented in a book and a series of images both printed on Moab Entrada Rag Natural.
